Silence, 2021, Digital video, Duration:14mins

Made in collaboration with K Patrick, Commissioned by TULCA Festival of Visual Art, Galway Ireland, 2021 ‘Silence’ is a film poem in response to the 13th century manuscript Roman De Silence by Heldris de Cornuälle. This medieval story centers on the life of Silence, born a ‘woman’ and living as a ‘man’.

The work staged a poetic intervention on the original text, the character of Silence becoming an armpit. Merlin, a rock. Our interpretation suggested the potential of human entanglements with matter, exploring the potential of the trans body in direct communication with its surroundings. The armpit becomes attuned to this: a bodily site that is both erotic and removed from the semiotics of a gender binary. The work shows the unfolding entanglement between the armpit and the rock, explicit in their innate queerness and the queerness of their relationship.
